About Us

 

The mission of Connecticut Fund for the Environment and its program Save the Sound is to protect and improve the land, air, and water of Connecticut and Long Island Sound. We use legal and scientific expertise and bring people together to achieve results that benefit our environment for current and future generations. We are a tax exempt organization under Section 501(c)3 of the Internal Revenue Code.

 

Our Goals

 

1) Critical natural areas are protected and support wildlife, recreation, and clean water

• Our last, great open spaces are protected from over-development

• Important coastal and island habitats are preserved

• All residents are able to access and enjoy the Sound

• Natural dunes and marshes help protect shoreline communities from future storms and sea level rise

 

2) Our communities are healthy and vibrant, and our air is clean

• Connecticut leads the nation in innovative clean energy and climate policy

• Our state prioritizes development that makes communities more vibrant, livable, walkable, and transit-friendly

• All Connecticut residents have healthy air to breathe

 

3) Our Long Island Sound, rivers, and lakes are safe for people and wildlife

• The dead zone is healed and marine life thrives throughout the Sound

• Important fish species flourish

• Our beaches, rivers, and lakes are safe for swimming

• All our rivers and lakes are healthy enough to support life

 

4) Our citizens can use the law to protect our natural resources and public health

• Connecticut's wetlands are successfully protected by law

• Citizens' voices are heard in environmental decision-making
