Grant Manager

Be part of the largest environmental nonprofit based in Connecticut, and help protect the land, air, and water of Connecticut and Long Island Sound. Connecticut Fund for the Environment/Save the Sound is seeking an experienced grant writer to work full time in our New Haven office.

Reporting to the Director of Development, the grant manager’s responsibilities include:

  • Research and identify foundation, government, and corporate funding opportunities; monitor websites for public and private RFP announcements.

  • Work with program and financial staff to prepare and submit letters of inquiry, concept papers, and complete grant applications/funding proposals. Ensure prompt acknowledgement of all grants received.

  • Ensure that grant deliverables and deadlines are communicated to relevant program staff.

  • Comply with all grant reporting requirements by writing and submitting narrative and financial reports. Provide written updates to government, corporate, and foundation donors.

  • Maintain up-to-date hardcopy and electronic grant records, including grant agreement letters and contracts, and electronic recordings of all donor contacts. Track all grant activity in coordination with grant writer.

  • Manage tracking and reporting on green projects grants, working closely with program and finance staff.

Advocates and Special Gifts Officer

Connecticut Fund for the Environment/Save the Sound is seeking a senior fundraising professional to expand on our proven record in major gift development.

 

Reporting to the Chief Development Officer, the Advocates and Special Gifts Officer is responsible for identifying, cultivating, soliciting, and stewarding major donors who support CFE and Save the Sound. In particular, s/he will work with the President and Chief Development Officer to develop organizational goals for major donor income, act as primary relationship manager for individual donors and prospects to reach or exceed annual funding goals, develop and execute cultivation and stewardship plans for donors and new prospects, and establish personal benchmarks for and report regularly on donor phone calls, meetings and other contacts.

Peter B. Cooper Legal Fellow

CFE/Save the Sound seeks a hard-working, energetic, and creative attorney with outstanding writing skills and a demonstrated commitment to protecting and improving our environment. This is a full-time, two-year position that begins in or around June 2018.

 

The job involves legal writing and advocacy before administrative agencies, state and federal courts, and the legislature. This advocacy may combine litigation with coalition building on a variety of issues, including protecting Long Island Sound, rivers and lakes, and great spaces, as well as energy and climate. The legal fellow may also work with senior staff to supervise law students and interns. The position is ideal for newer attorneys seeking experience in public interest environmental law and advocacy.

 

A Connecticut or New York Bar admission is preferred, but not immediately required. The candidate should have an outstanding academic record, strong communications skills, and demonstrated writing ability. A J.D. is required.

Seasonal Outreach and Education Steward, Sunken Meadow

Save the Sound is engaged in a multi-year habitat restoration project at Sunken Meadow State Park on Long Island. Our project partner, the NYS Parks department, is hiring a seasonal outreach and education staffer to engage the public in learning opportunities about the park ecosystem. The Steward's work will include: volunteer days (plantings, invasives removal); nature walks and presentations for park visitors; programs for students kindergarten through college; and monitoring (water quality, vegetation, fish, etc.).

This is a full-time seasonal position (April/May through August), working 35 hours a week Wednesdays to Sundays. There is a possibility it may be extended into September and/or October on a part-time basis.

General internships

Internships are available throughout the year for college students to work with CFE/Save the Sound’s program staff on research, event support, and project administration on a variety of programs that protect the water, air, and land of the Long Island Sound region. Some programs include Coastal Cleanup, Island and Coastal Lands, Energy and Climate Change, Healthy and Safe Waters, and Transportation. Click here for details.

Boat Donation to Support Soundkeeper Patrols

Save the Sound is seeking a donation of a seaworthy, well-functioning vessel for use as a patrol boat in the Sound’s many bays and harbors. 

Bill Lucey, the new Long Island Soundkeeper, is beginning to patrol your bays and harbors and galvanizing public support for fixing water pollution problems. Your tax-deductible boat donation will help re-launch Soundkeeper and protect your Sound!
