Remembering Brooks Kelley

While deeply saddened by the passing of Brooks Kelley, we celebrate his longstanding commitment and faith in the mission of Connecticut Fund for the Environment. As a board member of 21 years and board president for six, he understood the critical importance of protecting and improving the land, air, and water of Connecticut and Long Island Sound for people today and future generations.

Though we grieve his loss, we are inspired by his legacy. Brooks' intellectual accomplishments and capabilities were considerable. He provided decisiveness, vision, and integrity at a time when CFE needed it most, ensuring the organization's survival and empowerment. As a result, Connecticut's open space is more plentiful, its air more breathable, and New York's and Connecticut's treasure–Long Island Sound–is cleaner and safer for children and families.

Brooks also had a lasting impact on the culture of CFE, bringing a style to Board discussions that was unfailingly fair-minded, respectful, and collegialcore values that prevail in our board dealings to this day. His generous gifts of time, stewardship, and wisdom helped guide CFE from its early days to become the thriving organization it is today. He was a thoughtful and principled leader in all aspects of his life and an enduring part of our history. We are grateful for his friendship, his dedication, and his participation in the life of our organization.
