Lands & Communities

Keeping Connecticut’s undeveloped spaces protected while ensuring the best use of developed areas lies at the heart of our Lands program.

There are more than 3.2 million acres of open space in Connecticut—space used for recreation and education by nature lovers and as precious habitat by birds and wildlife. Thousands more acres feed our reservoirs and aquifers and require special protection to keep our drinking water clean and safe.

In our cities and towns, CFE pursues livable communities built on robust public transit, sustainable development, and vibrant streetscapes. We understand how our actions on land can impact the air we breathe and the water we drink. Our Lands program incorporates a strong sense of stewardship and responsibility into our everyday lives.
