Save Oswegatchie Hills Coalition Members

A broad range of civic leaders, residents, conservation, and environmental groups are advocating to preserve and protect the Oswegatchie Hills and the Niantic River in Southeastern Connecticut.

In the last decade, almost 460 acres of undeveloped Oswegatchie Hills terrain have been protected for perpetuity in the Oswegatchie Hills Nature Preserve.

Coalition members believe the best use of the remaining 236 acres of this vulnerable coastal forest is preservation, not high density housing. We want this land to be acquired at fair market value and added to the adjoining Oswegatchie Hills Nature Preserve to protect the entire contiguous ridgeline and a mile of Niantic River shoreline.

The native Mountain Laurel thrives in the rugged terrain of rock outcroppings and shallow soils.

The Oswegatchie Hills support a diverse ecosystem of flora and fauna, including this red eft, the terrestrial juvenile stage of the aquatic Eastern Newt.
